Rooted in Meaning: Why We Chose the Name "Kalvi"
"Kalvi" is the Tamil word for education.
Multilingualism was my first look into the marvels of language and linguistic contact. It was that insight that shaped my education and my spelling journey. Because of that, it only felt right that the nonprofit I started would be named in the language that started me on this path. My first language, the oldest language in the world: Tamil.
Founder's Message
Harini Logan, Founder & President
Having been raised in a multilingual household that nurtured a love for languages and books, I've understood the value of linguistics and its incorporation into education from a young age. That lifelong, consistent passion for words led me to a Scripps National Spelling Bee championship, fluency in nearly four languages, and a genuine desire to give back to the global community I've been privileged to be a part of. That desire led to the founding of Kalvi.
Through Kalvi, I've been able to work towards advancing educational opportunities for students both in my local community of San Antonio as well as in five different countries. My aim is to create pathways for access to widespread linguistic education, and I have taught (and continue to teach) students around the world in partnership with various organizations to help make that dream a reality.
